1. The Labay family wants to destroy a historical house, but the Old West Austin Neighborhood Association doesn't want them to. I think the Labay family has the stronger case. The compromise is subdividing the plot to keep the home but have development on the other side, too. I think its only good for the OWANA because the Labay family would probably still have much of their financial problems.
2. They are competing together for the contract to operate a nuclear weapons lab along with the University of Mexico. the Boeing Co. and the Battelle Memorial Institute. It would allow the universities to be involved with the nuclear weapons lab. I think the proposal is a good idea because it gives them a better chance of winning. I think it is OK for universities to be partners because it is good for them to work together sometimes.
3. Cosby's trial was allowed to move forward. Whenever a judge says there is enough evidence, then I trust them. The former district attorney promised to never prosecute Crosby as a way to get him to testify in a civil suit. No. It says the former district attorney not the present one promised that. I think it should be on the front page because Bill Cosby is very well known.
4. The new name will be Russell Lee elementary. Both Robert and Russell have the same last name and they chose Russell because the school already went by Lee. Another possible name, Bettie Mann, was given to the kindergarten hall. Only one person disagreeing made it a little awkward. I like it because it is basically the same name, only without the confederate part.
5. Ken Starr, the president, could be fired. The school had multiple sexual assault scandals against its football program. I think Art Briles should be fired because he is the person who has the responsibility for this along with the football players.

Journalism piece
It's been a little over a month since University of Texas freshman Haruka Weiser was murdered on the UT campus. And although McCallum seniors are looking forward to graduation and the next stage in their lives, it is hard for some, especially those going to UT, to forget the tragic event.
Murders happen, but this one seemed to really hurt. One reason is that murders just aren't common in Austin. The last murder on the UT campus takes you all the way back to 1966 when Charles Whitman killed 14 people from the UT tower. "It affected my sense of security," said senior Elisabetta Diorio," because we take safety for granted a little bit because Austin definitely does feel very safe and unobtrusive and so that incident, I think, sort of shook everyone up, and made me kind of appreciate the safety that I have a little bit more."
The murder drew different reactions from different people. Some think the murder was tragic but is a part of life, while others were shocked by the proximity of the crime. For senior Caitlin Williamson, who is planning to go to Austin Community College before going to UT, the murder was just an unfortunate event. "I wasn't terribly surprised," Williamson said. "It happens so often, not here, but just around the country.
Although Williamson isn't scared about going to UT, others are worried for their safety. One of which is senior Hannah Cooley, who will be attending the university next year. "It was definitely scary to hear about (the murder) knowing that I'll be there next year and being of the same variety," Cooley said. "She was a young girl and walking around on campus is a scary thing when you're alone. ... It was definitely scary and kind of a reality check about how safe you actually have to be if you're going to be walking around campus alone."
Walking around campus alone is something Cooley won't be doing along with taking other safety precautions to ensure her safety on campus.
"My mom told be never to walk with headphones in because you can't hear what is going on around you. Walking in groups, I plan to not walk alone at least mainly at night, just paying attention to my surroundings."

Other High School Newspapers
1. My favorite newspaper front page was the Tiger Print newspaper. It has a cool background picture in black and white except for one girl.
2. The paper that immediately got my interest was the Odyssey because it has a picture of one guy with a blurred background. It made be think about what is going on with him.
3. The only headline on the Tiger Print front page was "Tipping the scale".
4. The only writing on the front page was that headline.
5. The only things in common was the newspaper name at the top and they all had pictures.
6. Some had one big background picture with a few headlines and some had stories on them. Some had color but some didn't.
7. There were more school newspapers with no stories on it but instead one big background picture and a few headlines.

Intro to newspaper design

2. My favorite headline is It's Slime Not Crime because I wonder what it is talking about and it rhymes.
3. There aren't any stories, just headlines. That is one reason why I like it.
4. Most of the newspapers had a couple big pictures and a couple small ones. They had about die stories on the front page and the name at the top.
5. The way the stories are organized are different. Some have the most important stories in the middle, but some have them on the left. Some have story headlines above the newspaper name, but some don't.

Current Event 6.1
1. Harriet Tubman will be on the $20 bill. Women and civil rights leaders will be on the back of the $10 and $5 dollar bills. A Broadway musical about Hamilton helped him stay on the $10 bill.
2. Three officials have been accused of covering up evidence of lead contamination. There aren't many charges against people being bad at their job. They mislead people that the water was safe. They tampered with evidence. And they failed to order anti-corrosion treatment. The governor is drinking the water for the next 30 days to show it is safe. I think it will help unless he gets sick.
3. They won by a lot. Clinton is close, but Trump has a long ways to go. Primaries in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Delaware. He said the Republican nominating system is bad. Clinton stopped Sanders streak of wins.
4. They sued them over a new evaluation system. The union hopes to block a new evaluation system that would tie teacher's scores to student performance on standardized tests. AISD is adopting a new system that uses those tests results in a limited fashion. Value-added models are models that evaluate teachers by student test scores over time, which is simmilar to the new plan.
5. The deal compensates owners for cars that cheat on emissions tests. $1 billion will be given out. Some cars will cost more to repair. The car cheated emissions tests. They will have to pay for Clean Air Act violations.
6. Memphis has the Blues:
The Spurs dominated the Grizzles again on Tuesday night after the Memphis coach tried to give the team a pep-talk by impersonating Rocky Balboa. It doesn't look like the rest of the series will be close either. With the Spurs winning so easily there is a chance they will loose their groove before their next series.
I choose this article because the Spurs are my favorite team. I also watched that game, so I wanted to see what the writer thought about it. It is also by Kirk Bohls who you have had us read a lot.

Original Column
The Cavaliers were in trouble on Sunday. The 8-seed Pistons were shooting above 50% overall and from three. Detroit was up 7 with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter before the Cavs turned it around.
Kevin Love made big shots and grabbed rebounds, Kyrie Irving drived passed the Piston's defense, and LeBron James was clutch in the closing minutes.
The Cavaliers took the lead from the less experienced Piston's and never looked back, winning 106-101.
Maybe the best news for Cleveland, though, was how well the Cavaliers shared the load between their big three. With Love, Irving, and James each getting 20+ points each for the first time since Jan. 14, Cleveland showed a big improvement in knowing their roles than last year and even much of this year. Together they scored 81 points. "I was just getting to my spots," Kevin Love, who missed most of the playoffs last year, said to Lisa Salters. "I think the last three or four weeks of the season (I've been) doing that, shooting the shots that were there for me, being aggressive, that was huge for me."
The three stars working together was a good sign for a team who is trying to avenge their loss in the finals last year. If they continue to play like this, the Cavs should be back to the finals for the second straight year.
The toughest team in Cleveland's road to the title would be, of course, the Warriors. The Warriors beat the Cavaliers both times they played in the regular season, holding Love, Irving, and James to 75 points in their two games combined. So despite the performance on Sunday, it will be a whole different challenge for the Cavaliers if they play the Warriors in the finals.
The Cavaliers play at home against the Pistons again on Wednesday.
